OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G First Impressions, Launching Today

OnePlus has introduced its most budget-friendly smartphone in India, the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G, starting at ₹18,999. It aims to compete with devices like Realme P1, iQOO Z9x, Vivo T3, and Poco X9 Neo.

Unboxing and Design

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite package includes the smartphone, documentation, a transparent PU case, a red Type-A to Type-C cable, and an 80W adapter. Available in Super Silver, Ultra Orange, and Mega Blue, I received the Mega Blue variant, which is quite flashy.

The back of the phone has a pill-shaped camera cutout for the dual cameras and flash. The glossy plastic back attracts fingerprints and smudges, so using the included case is advisable.

OnePlus has opted for a flat panel design, moving away from the curved textured panel of the Nord CE 4. This change gives the phone a boxy feel, and the sharp edges might be uncomfortable during extended calls. A full review will explore its long-term comfort and usability.

The Nord CE 4 Lite features a flat display with a punch-hole notch, in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and an IP54 rating for splash and dust resistance.

Display and Software

The phone has a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a peak brightness of 2100 nits (1200 nits in High Brightness Mode). It also supports the Aqua Touch feature for improved usability with wet hands, though this feature has been inconsistent in previous models.

Running on Oxygen OS 14 based on Android 14, the Nord CE 4 Lite comes with nine pre-installed apps, including Candy Crush and LinkedIn, all of which can be uninstalled. The user interface is clean and ad-free, offering a better experience compared to other Chinese smartphones.

Camera

The Nord CE 4 Lite has a dual-camera setup with a 50MP Sony LYT primary sensor with OIS and a 2MP Mono sensor for enhanced portrait photos. It gives 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Performance

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset and Adreno 619 GPU, the Nord CE 4 Lite handles everyday tasks smoothly. However, the choice of an older Snapdragon 695 chipset is a letdown, especially when newer, more efficient options are available. Despite this, gaming performance on titles like BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile was smooth. A detailed performance review, including benchmarks, will follow later.

Battery

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite comes with a 5,500mAh battery, an upgrade from its predecessor, and supports 80W fast charging, taking the phone from 1-100% in about 52 minutes. In my limited testing, it took just over an hour to fully charge using the included charger.

Price

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite is priced at ₹18,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant, with the top-end 256GB storage variant at ₹22,999. It will be available for purchase from Amazon, OnePlus' website, and authorized stores starting June 27.
